Tanille Johnston
Proudly Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ from the WeWaiKai First Nation. Born and raised in Campbell River, British Columbia, and now lives there with her husband, two daughters, and two dogs.
First Indigenous Councillor for the City of Campbell River. 14+ years of experience as a social worker. Director of Community Programs and Services with First Nations Health Authority. NDP candidate for North Island—Powell River in the 2025 federal election. Previously served on the University of Victoria's Native Student Union, the School of Social Works’ Equity Advisory Council, the UVIC Student Society Board of Directors, and the University of Victoria’s Senate.
Passionate about equity and the social determinants of health and culture. Grew up playing soccer, loves cycling, playing volleyball, hiking and being in nature.
Some of Tanille's key priorities in politics are:
Meaningful and proportional electoral reform
Diverse and affordable housing
Equitable access to healthcare
Protecting the environment
Free and accessible post-secondary education
Increasing childcare spaces across the board
Better public transit and alternative methods of transportation
Increasing the representation and participation of Indigenous persons in local, regional, provincial and federal decision making.
